FREE - YAHRTZEIT & MILESTONE PLANNING GUIDE
A Gentle, Stage 3 Structure for Navigating Heavy Days

1

Section 1: When Milestones are near

Our philosophy moves away from models built on passive endurance. Instead, it approaches heavy calendar days—such as Yahrtzeits and significant anniversaries—through intentional containment and conscious, premade decisions.

Rather than letting grief dictate the entire 24-hour cycle, we create explicit boundaries—carving out designated space to feel and honor the loss while maintaining somatic anchors that protect your well-being.

Section 2: Preparing for your Milestone. (7–10 Days Prior)

Preparing early helps mitigate somatic stress and regulate your nervous system in the days leading up to major milestones:

  • Determine Your Capacity: Assess your physical and emotional energy reserves well in advance, reducing non-essential commitments to protect your baseline.

  • Designate the Container: Decide ahead of time when and how grief will be fully honored—customized to your personal needs and traditions (e.g., lighting a candle at 8:00 AM followed by 30 minutes of unstructured quiet time).

  • Set Boundaries & Support: Draft clear communications for friends and family regarding your needs and preferences (e.g., "I appreciate check-ins via text, but I will not be taking phone calls until tomorrow.").

Section 3: The Day-Of Protocol
(Yahrtzeit / Anniversary)

Follow this structured flow to maintain stability throughout the day:

  • Morning Anchor: Light the Yahrtzeit candle intentionally and allow yourself 10–15 minutes of uninterrupted quiet to sit with your memory. Before stepping away, name 5–6 familiar objects in the room. Press your heels and toes firmly into the floor, signaling to your body that you are safe to gently transition into your day.

  • Midday Pause: Step away for a 15-minute screen-free break. If possible, walk outside, practice a somatic breathing exercise, and engage in a quick tactile grounding loop to reset your baseline.

  • Evening Closure: Formally mark the close of the dedicated memorial period. Place your hand over your eyes, take a deep breath, and offer yourself words of compassion for the weight you carried today. Remind yourself that you are not alone.

Section 4: Post-Milestone Recovery & Decompression

The day after a heavy anniversary often brings secondary somatic fatigue. Maintain your baseline over the next 24 hours with a gentle recovery protocol:

  • Pacing: Keep your schedule intentionally light and minimize non-essential tasks.

  • Environment: Rest in low-stimulation spaces free from unnecessary noise or demands.

  • Nourishment: Focus on steady hydration and gentle, restorative movement.
